Guided Photo-Tour - Summer Academy 2000

A photo tour -perfect. But how to start. Best place would be where we all started our tours in good old downtown Dubrovnik - at Pile gate. Entering old town is like stepping back in time and history - it's an other world.

The amazing wall, the harbour and all guarded by strong Forts, as there are Fort St. John (there nowadays is a aquarium and a maritime museum), the 1319 built Fort Minceta or the harbour entrance guard by Fort Revelin are all witnesses of a glorious history. The many churches as for example Jesuits Church of St. Ignatius or the cathedral of St. Mary's annuciation are all worth being seen.

But have we only been there for sightseeing you may ask my dear friend. And the answer is - NO! We although have been there for watching out for new ideas and scientific research (on wave-length and stuff like this). Sorry - just a joke - truly spoken we really had hours of hard work. After being labled and addressed by various professors in a Joint Session we started with our presentations subsequently followed by the "so called" discussions.

During the middaybreak we had time to relax or  stroll through downtown and spend some money on the hugest - and at least the most delicious cheesburgers one can imagine , especially after paddling against strong winds and too high waves in small plasticbottles [Greetings to all those crazy shipmates singing "Just look on the bright side" while those murder-waves grew and grew]. By the way, if you ever get lost in Dubrovnik take a fifty Kuna note and you'll have a map of the town available.

After sunset and some interesting conversation about "Bubasuaba", "juks", "cockroaches" or "cofard"s  the beachlife was up to start. Seo, his guitar, a handful of stones, some girls from Belgium and hot beachsession were the result. - every night! And here is a photo Ivan (don't know where this guy suddenly came from :) did  of his view of the nightly beach impressions.

Some of us got addictet to hard drugs down there in Dubrovnik. Stuff like this hell-made ice or the morning sugar at the buffet (really needed if you see this typical bill: 18 beer vs. 1 Mirinda - [Greetings to Mr. Mirinda - by the way: He married and I wish him all the very best]) Or even harder stuff. The breakfast we generously shared with all those bees and cats.

Wherever one went in Dubrovnik you've never been alone  friends everywhere and all a round.

Oh! Not to forget the famous boattrip where we invented the worlds first and only sea urchin elevator. A thing i confess we have to improve. But nobody is perfect. And this delicious lunch  we've been served on board. Fish and pork, wine, fine weather, dear frieends - that's a thing worth keeping in mind and living for.

And there was this stone at the Franciscan church - I can't remember what it was good for but Stefaan stood there for hours. [Wish you all the best on your chase for this girl :-) ]

But as it is even the best days end and so the last evening approached where we've been handed out our certificates. We never got such close to our professors. Did I mentioned the joint dinners we had - no? Sorry - but now I did. Cheers!

On the way back home we all sat around on the airport discussing all those interesting things we met and learned in Dubrovnik.

I will never forget this beautiful and highly impressive time and wish you all the very best my dear "Raja"s, and I hope we meet once again, maybe down there in Dubrovnik.

"Civio"[don't know how to write this] and  Good bye,

Thomas W.
